The strategic partnership between the universities is going on

The Department of Pharmaceutical and Toxicological Chemistry, as well as the Department of Pharmacology, Pharmacotherapy and Clinical Pharmacology organized a visiting professor training with Bartosz Wielgomas, ass. Professor, head of the Department of Toxicology, Medical University of Gdańsk (MUG).

Within the framework of the visit, Bartosz Wielgomas had lectures, seminars and workshops on topical toxicology issues for the students, undergraduates and faculty members of Academy.

The program of lectures and seminars of Professor B.Wielgomas included such issues as basic concepts in toxicology, dose-effect relationship assessment, toxicity mechanisms, distribution of xeno-biotics: ADME (absorption, distribution, metabolism and isolation), biotransformation, toxicokinetics, toxicity on organs with inducible drugs.

1209

The professor spoke about the methodological aspects of carrying out pre-clinical testing of drug safety. He shared his experience of conducting preclinical tests in MUG, detailed studies have stopped, where such test systems as animal models, as well as drugs used in vivo and in vitro.

The lecture on the design of preclinical research was of particular interest to the audience: the sample size and the use of control animals, the routes of administration, the dosage and concentration of the test substance, the study of metabolites, isomers and final products, etc.

With professor B. Wielgomas, issues of further cooperation with the partner university in the field of training highly qualified specialists for the pharmaceutical industry, the possibility of developing joint study programs, research projects, as well as probation periods for undergraduates of the departments of pharmaceutical and toxicological chemistry, as well as pharmacology, pharmacotherapy and clinical pharmacology on the basis of the Department of Toxicology, MUG.
