Students of JSC "SKMA" took prizes at the international student Olympiad

On October 26, 2023 in Astana city on the basis of NAO "Astana Medical University" the first international student subject Olympiad on educational programmes "Public Health and Public Health" and "Pharmacy" was held in full-time form.

The event attracted students from various parts of the world, including representatives from near abroad such as Bashkir State Medical University (BSMU) from the city of Ufa, Tashkent Pharmaceutical Academy (TashPharmI) from Tashkent, and the Termez branch of Tashkent Medical Academy. In addition, students from leading domestic medical universities, including South Kazakhstan Medical Academy (SKMA), Semey Medical University (SMU), S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University (KazNMU), and West Kazakhstan Medical University (WKMU), took part in the competition.

SKMA was represented by the team "People in White" consisting of students of the 4th year B- KDSS-02-20 on the educational programme "Public Health".
Students of SKMA participated in the sections: "Epidemiology" and "Public Health and Public Health". The Olympiad consisted of 2 stages and captains' competition.
At the first stage of the Olympiad in the section "Epidemiology" the theoretical knowledge of the participants was evaluated on the following topics: Teaching about the epidemic process; Disinfection, sterilisation; Safe handling of medical waste; Immunoprophylaxis; Infections associated with the provision of medical care.
The second stage of the Olympiad in the Epidemiology section assessed practical skills such as: Medical waste; Hygienic treatment of hands with antiseptic; Measures in case of emergency situations; Algorithm of action when taking PCR analysis; Disinfection measures.
At the first stage of the Olympiad in the section "Public Health and Health Care" the theoretical knowledge of the participants was evaluated on the following topics: Health of the population; Medical ethics, bioethics; Basics of medical statistics; Organisation of medical care of the population; Medical personnel.
At the second stage of the Olympiad in the section "Public Health and Public Health Care" practical skills were evaluated by the method of solving situational problems.
The Olympiad was organised at the highest level. The participants of the team "People in White" showed themselves from the best sides, actively participated in all competitions of the Olympiad. Each round was evaluated by four jury members (experts).

The team "People in White" successfully performed at the Olympiad, taking prizes in individual scores: 2nd place - in the section "Epidemiology", 2nd place - in the section "Public Health and Health Care". According to the results of the Olympiad, the students of UKMA became the second in the team competition.
