Student-centered training on specialty “Technology of pharmaceutical production”
An open laboratory session was held in the discipline “General Chemical Technology” at the Department of Pharmaceutical and Toxicological Chemistry for 3rd-year students on the specialty “Technology of pharmaceutical production”. Laboratory lesson on the topic: “Polycondensation of phenol with formaldehyde” was conducted using active training methods (ATM) - TBL and CBL. ATM motivate the interest of students and contribute to a more in-depth study of the material, provide students with the opportunity to make extensive use of new information resources in vocational training.
The goal for students was to obtain experimentally a novolac and resole phenol-formaldehyde resins, for which the training group was divided into two teams.
The laboratory work with ATM elements ensured active learning and practical activities of students, forming in them the ability to findindependently, processcreatively and use the necessary information from various sources for the synthesis and effectively conduct the laboratory part of the session.
To consolidate the teaching material, the students were asked to assemble a chemical-technological scheme for the production of novolac and resole phenol-formaldehyde resins.
The method of situational-oriented training included both individual (Kahoot testing) and group work of students using virtual production - work in «Open labyrinth», the essence of which was to solve the problem in virtual production conditions. The activity of students was manifested when working with a problem for which they had to remember and logically classify the main fragments associated with the synthesis of resole resin.
The use of team-based and situational-oriented training has greatly contributed to the development of communication skills, better learning of the teaching material, fostered the development and improvement of both behavioral and professional skills.
