Round table on the topic: «My profession is my pride!»

On April 30, 2024, Associate Professor S.U. Eskerova, from the Department of Hygiene and Epidemiology, hosted a round table discussion titled "My Profession is My Pride!" The event was attended by graduates of JSC "SKMA" specializing in "Medical and Preventive Affairs" and "Public Health," who are currently employed in the field of sanitary and epidemiological control in Shymkent city. Also present were the department's faculty members, along with first-year students enrolled in the continuous integrated educational program "Medical and Preventive Care," students from the first to fourth year of the educational program "Public Health," and students from the В-ЖМҚАБ-04-22 group in their second year of the continuous integrated educational program "Medicine."
The purpose of the round table is to underscore the significance of professions within the realm of public health and disease prevention.
At the outset, a warm welcome was extended by the head of the department, Associate Professor P.D. Utepov. Following this, Moderator S.U. Eskerova delivered a report titled "The Importance of Educational Programs in Medical and Preventive Care and Public Health" highlighting the pivotal role of these programs in the training of specialists. Special emphasis was placed on the unique attributes of the continuous integrated educational program in Medical and Preventive Care."

In a presentation report prepared by Dr. A.O. Zhunisova, the bacteriologist of the Anti-Plague Station in Shymkent, students were briefed on the structure, tasks, and functions of the station. The report covered working conditions, including those within the bacteriological laboratory, as well as biological safety measures. It outlined the types of experiments conducted and highlighted the unique challenges of working in areas prone to particularly dangerous diseases such as plague, cholera, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, and tick-borne encephalitis. The report also emphasized the importance of annual targeted vaccinations to safeguard the health of station workers. Additionally, it delved into research projects undertaken and completed by the station's staff.

Epidemiologist Sydykov G.K. from the Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS engaged in a dialogue with students, outlining the objectives of the AIDS Center, the unique procedures involved in working with HIV and AIDS patients, statistics for Shymkent city categorized by age, sex, and professions, clinical symptoms, methods of disease detection, measures to safeguard medical personnel, strategies for conducting public education campaigns, and stressed the importance of an annual blood test, emphasizing individual responsibility for one's own health and well-being.

The chief specialist of the Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control in the Turan district of Shymkent, A. Zhunusbai, addressed participants at a round table, providing insight into the structure, objectives, and functions of the sanitary and epidemiological service. Additionally, he elaborated on the rights, responsibilities, and communication skills expected of civil servants, as well as proficiency in innovative technologies and protocols for collaborating with other agencies. Furthermore, he illustrated administrative offenses with practical examples.
During a session with graduates of the "Medical and Preventive Care" specialty, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at SKMA, Mutalipova G.Z., shared her educational journey, stating that she completed both her bachelor's and master's degrees at this institution. Currently, she is pursuing a doctoral degree in the "Public Health" educational program. She emphasized that according to the educational programs, students have opportunities for careers in healthcare, education, and science.
Doctoral student of medicine, Avizova Z.K., presented on the topic "My Profession, My Pride!" at a round table discussion. She shared that she received her training at the academy in the specialty of "Medical and Preventive Care" and completed her master's program in "Medicine." Currently, she is pursuing doctoral studies on a state grant at the NJSC "Marat Ospanov West Kazakhstan Medical University" Her research focuses on the prevention of lung cancer, aligning with her specialization in preventive medicine aimed at combating common diseases in the population. Additionally, she publishes scientific articles in international journals. Previously, she worked as an epidemiologist in a medical institution and later taught at the Department of Hygiene and Epidemiology for foreign students in English. In conclusion, she encouraged students to master the English language and communication technologies while engaging in scientific pursuits.
The specialists successfully engaged the students with the information, prompting them to ask questions on topics of interest. The experts provided satisfactory answers to these inquiries.
At the conclusion of the round table, P.D. Utepov, the head of the department, summarized the outcomes, and moderator S.U. Eskerova expressed gratitude to all participants.
