March 14 – «Amal» holiday
Today is the day of greeting. This day is also called the Amal holiday. People are happy that they got out of winter safely, stepped into spring, met with relatives and neighbors, shook hands and hugged each other. They want to forget their grievances and wish well.
Some scientists studying the day of the Amal holiday associate this day with geographical features, others accept it as the first day of the Nauryz holiday. And some scientists associate the emergence of this tradition with the change of the calendar.
According to historians, on January 24, 1918, the Halcom Cathedral introduced the Gregorian calendar. However, the difference between the two calendars is 13 days. Therefore, the old calendar ended on January 31, 1918, and the next month began on February 14. Based on these data, March 1 will come - March 14 is considered the beginning of the year, the first day of spring in the calendar. The Amal holiday is “peace, kindness, dignity. This is an ancient spring holiday characteristic of the hospitable Kazakh people.
According to the calendar of eastern countries, the beginning of March is considered the 1st day of the month “Hamal” (Amal). By "Hamal" we mean the old Persian name for the constellation Aries. There is an idea that the constellation Aries is born at the moment of the day and night equinox. The word "Nauryz" means "new day". In ancient times, the Kazakhs called this day “Amal” instead of “Nauryz”. We can say that there is no difference between these words. And this corresponds to March 14 according to the current calendar.
On this occasion, teachers of the department “History of Kazakhstan and social disciplines” and students of the STKab-02-23 group organized an event called “March 14 - Amal Day”.
The purpose of the event: to introduce students to the features of one of the national customs and traditions of the Amal holiday, to wish each other well, and to express respect for elders. On this day, previous grievances are forgiven, enmity is forgotten. This is Welcome Day - a holiday of brotherhood, modesty, and charity.
