Manufacturing practice of the European level
Another manufacturing practice “Quality control and certification of drugs” of the students of the South Kazakhstan State Pharmaceutical Academy was held at the department of chemistry of the University of veterinary and pharmaceutical sciences, Brno, the Czech Republic in the period from 12.05.2015 to 26.05.2015.
Passage of practice in one of the leading European universities was awarded to the 4th year students of the Faculty of Pharmacy - Karimova Asel and Yermekova Akbota. The criteria for selection of students was not only a mastery of the English language, but also an excellent performance in pharmaceutical chemistry, and research skills as well.
Students got acquainted with the normative documents in the field of quality control of medicines. In particular, with the national pharmacopoeia of the Czech Republic (PHARMACOPOEA BOHEMICA 2009), as well as pharmaceutical companies pharmacopoeia articles.
In accordance with the manufacturing practice program “Quality control and certification of drugs”, students carried out the following types of practical work on the analysis of pharmaceutical drugs as common pharmacopoeia methods of physical, chemical and physico-chemical analysis: spectrophotometry in the UV and visible regions of the spectrum, titrimetry, electrophoresis, thin-layer and high performance liquid chromatography, and others.
An analysis of the pharmacopoeia of medicinal substances and dosage forms in accordance with the regulations was carried out.
Students attended lectures and master classes of the leading staff of the department:
1. The search for and creation of potential drugs and excipients, as well as their analytical assessment (heterocyclic compounds with potential antimicrobial activity, potential inhibitors of photosynthesis).
2. The study of physical and chemical properties of potential drugs and their polymorphism.
3. Bioavailability study of nanoparticles in vitro.
Special impressions left familiarity with basic and specialized departments of VFU, which are equipped with modern equipment in the field of pharmaceutical production and quality control of drugs: the department of analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, natural medicines, molecular biology and pharmaceutical biotechnology.
Students visited the pharmaceutical factory “Onсomed” for the production of anticancer drugs, got acquainted with all stages of production: from the preparation of materials up to the mark.
Practical training in quality assurance and certification of medical products has allowed students to deepen their theoretical knowledge, to consolidate practical skills in the field of pharmaceutical analysis of drugs with the use of physical, chemical and physico-chemical methods.
The students expressed gratitude to the administration of the Academy for the opportunity of practical training in one of Europe's leading universities.
