Industrial practice of students of Sechenov University

From June 10 to June 21, 2024, 4th-year students of the educational program "Pharmacy" of Sechenov University completed industrial practice "Quality Control and Standardization of Medicines" at the Department of Pharmaceutical and Toxicological Chemistry of SKMA.

In accordance with the industrial practice program, students studied the regulatory documentation governing quality control, standardization, examination and registration of medicines in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the main ones being the Decisions of the EAEU in the field of circulation of medicines, the Pharmacopoeia of the EAEU (Pharmacopoeia of the Union), the State Pharmacopoeia of the Republic of Kazakhstan, orders of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, etc. The practice program consisted of such sections of pharmaceutical analysis as general pharmacopoeial methods of physical, chemical and physicochemical analysis. Students conducted a full pharmacopoeial analysis of substances, tablets, capsules, injection solutions, ointments, suppositories, herbal preparations, etc. in accordance with the requirements of the State Pharmacopoeia of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

A qualitative and quantitative analysis of medicinal products was performed, based on chemical methods of analysis. In particular, titrimetric methods - alkalimetry, nitritometry, iodometry, etc. Physical constants such as melting point, pH, loss in mass on drying, etc. were determined.

The trainees consolidated their practical skills and abilities in working with physical and chemical devices and equipment. A pharmacopoeial analysis of drugs, derivatives of barbituric acid and 1,4 benzodiazepines isolated from a biological matrix (methods of isolation, concentration, identification and quantitative determination) was conducted.

Thus, industrial practice in quality control and standardization of medicines allowed students to deepen their theoretical knowledge, consolidate practical skills and abilities in the field of pharmaceutical analysis of medicines using physical, chemical and physicochemical methods of analysis.

During their industrial practice, students demonstrated good theoretical preparation in pharmaceutical chemistry, analytical thinking, responsibility and accuracy in practical work; it should also be noted that they were curious, showed interest in all classes, were resourceful and had the ability to think logically and draw appropriate conclusions based on the results of their work.

The cultural program was rich, during which the students got acquainted with the sights of Southern Kazakhstan. The students visited the Mausoleum of Khoja Akhmed Yasa-vi, the Asanbay Askarov Arboretum, the Academy's sports and health camp in the Kaskasu gorge, and also visited the capital of Uzbekistan - Tashkent.

Following the industrial practice, students were awarded certificates confirming that the internship program had been completed at the proper level.
