Application of project-oriented learning methodology in classes of Pharmacognosy Department

Project-oriented learning (PBL) introduced in "Pharmacognosy" discipline. For the implementation of PBL, 4 groups of the 3rd course on educational program "Pharmacy" are assigned to the department: B-PKA-01-20, B-PKB-01-20, B-PKA-02-20, B-PKB-02-20.
The purpose of the project activity is the understanding and application by students of the knowledge, skills and abilities acquired in the study of the discipline.

For participants in project-based learning, divided the following topics for research:
1. Pharmacognostical and phytochemical study of the Achillea biebersteinii herb;
2. Pharmacognostical and phytochemical study of Salvia sclarea leaves;
3. Pharmacognostical and phytochemical study of water mint leaves;
4. Pharmacognostical and phytochemical studies of Origanum tyttanthum herb;
5. Pharmacognostical and phytochemical study of St. John's wort herb;
6. Pharmacognostical and phytochemical study of dandelion roots.
On October 22, 2022, an interim report of the PBL held at the department.
At the first stage of the research, a review of the literature data was carried out and a patent search was carried out on the topics under study. For this, various databases were used, such as Scopus, elibrary, Web of science, etc.
At the second stage, the students performed macroscopic, microscopic, as well as merchandising analyzes of medicinal plant materials. These methods were reproduced using the State Pharmacopoeia of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The practical significance of the study is determined by its focus on improving the quality of professional training of bachelors for project activities in the conditions of university education in the specialty "Pharmacy".

Features of professional training of bachelors for project activities are:
- development of initiative and creativity in the process of project activities;
- orientation of students to creative problem solving;
- inclusion in search and research activities as part of work on projects;
- formation of evaluative abilities, focus on self-esteem, self-development and self-expression;
- organization of teamwork experience,
- formation of communication skills, flexibility and creative style of communication.
