Active methods – an effective way to train students
A series of open classes of leading specialists of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Toxicological Chemistry was held by ass. professor - Bayan Tursubekova and master of pharmacy, senior lecturer – Yerzhan Orynbasarov with students of the fourth year of the specialty “Pharmacy” in the discipline “Analysis of natural biologically active compounds”.
Laboratory classes were conducted using active teaching methods - CBL, TBL with RBL elements. In the classroom, students received a task from the teacher in the form of a real situation from the practice of the National Center for Expertise of Medicines, Medical Equipment and Medical Products. To solve the problem, the authorized body makes a decision to conduct an additional examination. In this situation, students perform the role of an analytical chemist in a testing laboratory for quality control of medicines. To this end, the training groups were divided into two teams. After receiving the assignment from the instructor, each small group performed a pharmacopean analysis of the substance and dosage form according to the ND sections and made appropriate conclusions.
The methodology for conducting ATM classes included checking the initial knowledge levels on-line with Kahoot testing. To process statistical data on the use and identify side effects of drugs, an on-line Google form questionnaire was developed. In addition, students were used pharmacopoeias of different countries: Kazakh Pharmacopeia, Russian Pharmacopeia, USP, Brit.P, EurP, JP for comparative requirements of pharmacopean analysis and international scientific databases: Science Direct and Scopus.
It should especially be noted the classes of Yerzhan Orynbasarov, which were conducted using the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) methodology. Knowledge of the English language and the subject studied gave students the opportunity to adopt the most successful, optimal solution from all possible in the proposed situations.
The teachers of the department of foreign languages, as well as profile departments, who recommended the experience of the teachers of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Toxicological Chemistry for the teaching staff of the Academy for the purpose of exchanging experience, gave a high evaluation of the lessons.
