The flame relay of Universiade 2017 in Shymkent

On January, 28 residents of South Kazakhstan region took flame relay of 28th World Winter Universiade. The fire lighting ceremony was held at 10.00 a.m. in front of South Kazakhstan regional Russian drama theatre. Regional akim Zh. Tuimebayev carried the flame and handed over the attribute of Universiade-2017 to honored master of sports of RK, holder of the order “Kurmet” Aliya Yussupova. The next who had the honour of carrying the torch was rector of South Kazakhstan state pharmaceutical academy Bakhytzhan Deribsaliyevich Seksenbayev.

In total, 60 torchbearers carried the torch of flame relay through main streets of Shymkent city. Among them there were famous sportsmen, students of 12 HEIs, including South Kazakhstan state pharmaceutical academy. Our students, faculty and staff took direct part in such Grand. On behalf of our university students Magzhan Shamiyev, Azizbek Torakulov, Takhirzhan Abdurakhmanov and the teacher of Department of morphological and physiological disciplines, with valeology Orynbassar Ashirbayev was carrying the torch. Overall, the event was attended by about 6 thousand residents of city.

The XXVIII World Winter Universiade will be held from January 28 to February 8, 2017. According to preliminary data, it will be attended by over five thousand students from 50 countries.

As part of the Winter Universiade in Kazakhstan competitions in 13 sports disciplines (8 mandatory and 5 optional) will be held.
