Today, the health care system seeks to increase the importance of nursing care. Key changes are taking place in Kazakhstan, and work is being actively carried out to increase the responsibility and significance of this profession.

The role of nurses is special, since they have the skills of complex patient care, rehabilitation and disease prevention and they have various knowledge within their competence. It is also important to improve not only clinical and communication skills, but also research skills.

In this regard, a new project was launched to improve nursing at the master’s and PhD doctoral levels in Kazakhstan – Accelerating Master and PhD level nursing education development in the higher education system in Kazakhstan – AccelEd. On this occasion, on January 11-13, 2021 and on February 10-12, 2021, an online kick-off meeting was held on this project.

At the first meeting in January, the Kazakh and European partners of the AccelEd project discussed the project’s objectives related to modern challenges in nursing, innovations in nursing, new perspectives for students in this specialty and practicing nurses. The meeting was attended by representatives of the National Office of the Erasmus + Program, WHO, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republican Center for Health Development, the “Paryz” Nursing Association, medical universities of Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Finland and the Netherlands.

The second kick-off meeting, which was held on February 10-12 with the project staff, the AccelEd Executive Board and Academic Advisory Board, presented the academic work packages responsible for strengthening nursing science, as well as the consolidated plan with objectives for each package.

The AccelEd project is being implemented as part of the European Union’s Erasmus + program aimed at developing higher education. The aim of the project is to promote education in the specialty “Nursing” at the master’s and PhD doctoral levels, which will allow nurses to self-actualize in research activities. Thanks to internships and training courses within the framework of the project, master and doctoral students, teachers will be able to expand their knowledge and scientific understanding of their activities.
