Visit of a foreign professor to the Academy
Visiting AbroadAt the invitation of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Toxicological Chemistry, the South Kazakhstan Medical Academy (SKMA) was visited by a famous Indian scientist, Dr. Shanmugam Ramaswamy, representing the JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (Ooty, India). His visit was an important event in the scientific life of the Academy and was aimed at strengthening international scientific cooperation.of the professor to the Academy
Dr. Sh. Ramaswamy is an overseas scientific consultant for two PhD students of the department who are actively involved in research in the field of quality control and standardization of medicines. Dr. Sh. Ramaswamy and his scientific school actively participate in scientific forums and poster competitions organized by the Department of Pharmaceutical and Toxicological Chemistry.
As part of his visit, he spoke at the II International Forum of Young Scientists and Students dedicated to the 45th anniversary of our Academy, where he presented a report on the topic of "Strategy for the Development and Standardization of Herbal Medicines" at the plenary session. His speech aroused great interest among the forum participants.
Apart from participating in the forum, Dr. Shanmugam Ramaswamy delivered a series of lectures to the undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD students and faculty members of the Academy. The lectures covered the following relevant topics:
• Herbal formulation and modern technology
• Role of biopharmaceutical classification system in formulation strategy
• Standardization of herbal technology
• Dissolution, pharmacokinetics and case study
• Indian patent formulation
• PhD research discussion
• HPLC method development and validation
• Accelerated stability studies
The knowledge and skills gained contributed to enhancing the knowledge of the students and professionals of the Academy and also strengthened the links in higher education and science with their Indian colleagues.
Dr. Shanmugam Ramaswamy also visited the city of Turkestan, where he visited the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi and other significant religious sites, appreciating the cultural and historical heritage of the region and thereby strengthening international ties through spiritual interaction.
Dr. Ramaswamy’s visit was an important contribution to the development of international scientific cooperation at SKMA and the further deepening of research activities at the Academy.
