Time to remember: Educational hour for international day of older persons

As part of the International Day of Older Persons, an educational hour was held in the Department of neurology, psychiatry, rehabilitation, and neurosurgery for fifth-year students, focusing on important aspects of the lives of older individuals and the relevant issues they face. Assistant Gaukhar Eruzakhovna Tolebayeva created an atmosphere of respect and understanding, allowing students to gain a deeper appreciation for the significance of this topic. This event brought together the teaching staff of the department (PhD, associate professor Mustapaeva G.A., PhD, associate professor Polukchi T.V., PhD, associate professor Yerkebayevа S.K., and assistants Esetova A.A., Musaevа S.K., Ramanova G.B.), who watched the presentations of future doctors with interest. Students prepared informative and engaging presentations on the following topics:1.Dementia: Definition, symptoms, and ways to support individuals suffering from this condition. 2.Stroke: Causes, consequences, and first aid measures. 3.Alzheimer's Disease: Characteristics of the disease and its impact on the lives of patients and their families. Each presentation was followed by a discussion, which fostered active student engagement in the process. Participants shared personal stories and reflections, helping to create a warm and supportive atmosphere. At the end of the session, an open discussion was organized, where students could ask questions and exchange opinions on the importance of caring for older individuals and supporting them during difficult times. This educational hour provided not only an opportunity to learn more about the diseases affecting older people but also a chance to develop compassion and empathy, which are so vital in our society. We hope that such events will become a tradition, as they help to cultivate a culture of respect for older persons in our community.
