Overview of the thematic excursion to the historical and cultural complex "Shymkent"
Students visited the «Shymqala» historical and cultural complex in Shymkent, located on the site of the ancient citadel. The Shymkent citadel, which is over 2200 years old, is a unique archaeological site in Kazakhstan, preserving elements of ancient urban planning.
Excavations in the area have been conducted since the 1950s, with the scope of the work significantly expanding in the early 2000s. Research results confirmed that Shymkent is at least 2200 years old, with ceramic fragments dating back to the era of the Kangyu state.
The students explored the restored parts of the citadel, such as the «Stairway of Hope» and the «Tower of Love,» as well as archaeological finds, including ceramics, weapons, a bone storage, and kilns used for pottery firing.
The excursion was an important educational event, deepening the students' understanding of the history and cultural heritage of Shymkent. During the tour, the students developed a greater interest in history and archaeology and gained a sense of pride in the rich history and cultural heritage of their homeland.
