The Department of Infectious Diseases and Dermatovenereology (formerly the Department of Infectious Diseases with courses in epidemiology, pediatric infectious diseases) was first organized on the basis of the city infectious diseases hospital in 1996, since 2008 the subject of dermatovenereology has been included in the department.
The first Head of the Department was the chief physician of the Institute, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor, A. D. Anarbayev, who headed the department from 1996 to 1997, then the department was headed by: 1998-2001 Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Sh. A.Balgimbekov;2001-2007 Doctor of Medical Sciences Egizbaev M. K.;
2007-2009 Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor, Utepbergenova G. A.
Starting from September 1, 2009, the department is headed by Candidate of Medical Sciences, Professor Abuova G.N., Excellent Health Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan, independent expert of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, owner of the state grant "The Best University Teacher - 2016", an honorary graduate of the Semey State Medical University. Member of the International Association of Especially Dangerous Infections, the Euro-Asian Society for Infectious Diseases, the Republican Public Association of Infectious Diseases.

The purpose and tasks:
• training of students with higher professional education, conducting scientific research;
• implementation of the SKMA Policy and Objectives in the field of quality within the competence of the department;
• ensuring a high level of teaching disciplines with the use of modern innovative technologies aimed at fulfilling the main task of the department in the process of training bachelor's degree, residency and Faculty of Science after residency specialists;
• development and implementation of educational and visual aids, development of control and measuring tools to ensure the control of students' knowledge;
• systematic professional development of teachers;
• implementation of educational work in the framework of curatorial activities, in the process of lecturing and conducting practical classes and during shifts in the dormitory.

The updatability of the disciplines being read:
The main place in the work of the department is occupied by educational and methodical work. In accordance with the state standard, the number of hours allocated to general and special courses in all disciplines has been determined, the topics of elective courses in bachelor's degree, internship, residency and doctoral studies have been updated, standard training work programs (syllabuses) have been updated, teaching aids and developments have been published.
In addition, the teaching staff of the department prepared and filmed video lectures in the distance learning department of the Academy.
 

Scientific priorities of the department:
The department provides an educational process for students of the Faculty of Advanced Training of doctors, residents, interns, undergraduate students of the SKMA in the disciplines of infectology.
The educational and methodical work of the department is carried out in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Standard programs of specialties of students, calendar and thematic plans of lectures, practical and open classes approved at the beginning of the academic year, planned pedagogical load, the plan of methodical work of the department.
In order to increase the efficiency of the educational process, the department is working to continuously improve the level of knowledge of students and improve the quality of teaching.
Increasing the level of students' knowledge is achieved by improving the material, technical and clinical base of the department, using the teaching staff of the department of modern innovative pedagogical technologies in the learning process ("portfolio", TBL, PBL, case study, standardized patient, etc. educational videos, electronic textbooks, multimedia projectors, slide presentations, pedagogical technologies, the departments' own website, etc.).
The pedagogical teaching staff of the department continuously improves their professional level through the planned passage of clinical and pedagogical cycles of improvement at the national and international levels. The department has published textbooks in the Kazakh language "Collection of lectures on infectious diseases"; "Differential diagnosis of infectious diseases" (author-G.N.Abuova), educational and methodological manuals are being prepared for publication: "Modern teaching technologies in clinical protocols of diagnosis and treatment in residency and internship"; "Collection of clinical multilingual reports on infectious diseases for the specialty of general practitioners": "Practical guide to Epidemiology".
In the 2021-2022 academic year, the 1PhD dissertation "Cognitive impairment in patients with chronic viral hepatitis" is being prepared for defense. Russian and state languages have been issued 3 textbooks, 12 textbooks in Russian and state languages on infectious diseases, articles and abstracts are published systematically in various publications and collections of scientific conferences, a student scientific circle also functions, rounds are also carried out, severe and complex patients are consulted in the departments of the City Infectious Diseases Hospital in the hospitals of the city, regular participation in medical and practical, clinical and pathoanatomic conferences, meetings of the Society of Infectious Diseases, lectures and seminars are held at the hepatoschool.
An international patent was obtained: "A method for predicting the outcome of the Congo-Crimean hemorrhagic fever" Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent) for copyright certificates: Dynamic monitoring of epidemiological surveillance of persons with tick bite in accordance with the incubation period of possible Congo-Crimean hemorrhagic fever. 2. Epidemiological monitoring of contact persons with a patient with Congo-Crimean hemorrhagic fever in accordance with the incubation period. 3. Monitoring of seroprevalence of the population to the Congo-Crimean hemorrhagic fever virus.4. Monitoring of persons who have been bitten by a tick, at risk of infection with Congo-Crimean hemorrhagic fever. 5. Algorithm of early diagnosis of Congo-Crimean hemorrhagic fever in accordance with the standard definition of the case. 6. Criteria of clinical manifestations of the Congo-Crimean hemorrhagic fever in children in the Turkestan region. 7. Epidemiological monitoring-a map of the investigation of the case of CCHF in the southern regions of Kazakhstan. 8. The methodology of epidemiological surveillance of persons with tick bite in accordance with the incubation period of possible Congo-Crimean hemorrhagic fever. 9. Questionnaire for assessing residual effects and consequences of COVID-19.
Organization, holding and participation in scientific conferences, scientific and practical conferences, thematic conferences, interdepartmental, seminars, Olympiads, etc., indicating the level of holding and the degree of participation:

* Head of the department, Candidate of Medical Sciences Abuova G.N. and faculty of the department give lectures and conduct seminars on coronavirus infection COVID-19 for doctors of Shymkent and Turkestan region.
* Head of the Department, PhD Abuova G.N. reads online lectures and conducts seminars at the hepatoschool at the Regional Clinical Hospital.
* Head of the Department, Candidate of Medical Sciences G.N. Abuova lectures and conducts seminars at the regional Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in Shymkent and Turkestan region.
Planning and publishing of scientific works.
The publication of the monograph "Congo-Crimean hemorrhagic fever" is planned for 2021-2022.
 

Organization of students' research work (R & D):
The department has a student scientific circle (SSC) “Infectious diseases specialist”. The circle consists of students from among undergraduates, resident infectious diseases specialists, interns-therapists, interns-pediatricians, interns-GPS, bachelors. Monthly meetings of the circle are held, according to the students ' research work plan. Under the guidance of teachers, SNK members prepare reports, presentations, clinical analyses on infectious pathology, there are publications published in periodicals prepared by undergraduatesand residents, and educational "case histories" of infectious patients are developed. Prizes were awarded.

Currently, the clinical base of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Dermatovenereology of the SKMA is the Shymkent City Infectious Diseases Hospital, designed for 360 beds.
The department is located on the 3rd floor of the main building of the Shymkent City Infectious Diseases Hospital, equipped with a good, updated material and technical base, classrooms are adapted for lectures and practical exercises using modern innovative technologies, practical skills are mastered directly in the departments of the hospital No. 1-10 and the hepatocenter, as well as the educational and clinical center of SKMA.
